Porsche unveils 718 GTS lineup in Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Auto Show is the place to go to see what the upcoming here has in store in terms of new vehicles. There are very few wacky concepts at the L.A. show, and most of the vehicles unveiled to the world in the city of angels are destined for production in the very short term. It was therefore the perfect setting for Porsche to unveil its brand new Porsche 718 Boxster GTS and 718 Cayman GTS lineup a few weeks ago.

The most powerful models in the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman lineups

The new Boxster and Cayman GTS models are now the most powerful models in the 718 lineup. Using the 2.5-liter flat four-cylinder turbo engine found in the 718 S models, the GTS gets 365 horsepower which is absolutely incredible for a four-cylinder engine. It’s also about 15 more horsepower than the 718 Cayman S and Boxster S models. A six-speed manual transmission will be offered as will a PDK dual-clutch gearbox, and the GTS models will get to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds. Top speed is an impressive 290 km/h.

No doubt about it, the new 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman GTS are sure to be a blast on the track. Not only will they be incredibly fast, they will also feature a wide range of technologies designed to make them handle and drive like no other car on the road not called Porsche. These include Porsche’s Active Suspension Management system, a Sport Chrono Package and Porsche Torque Vectoring with a rear mechanical lock. There’s also an app that allows drivers to record and analyze driving data on their smartphone.

A more aggressive look for the Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman GTS models

As with other GTS models, the 718 Boxster GTS and 718 Cayman GTS models will feature black accents (black logos, black rear apron, and black tailpipes) and black wheels while the interior gets the GTS logo in the headrest.

Based on how the current 911 GTS behaves or how the previous Boxster and GTS models performed, we can expect that the new Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman GTS models will be a bit stiffer on the road, and its exhaust note will be a touch more aggressive. That said, GTS owners know how well balanced these vehicles are, and how they perform almost perfectly in any condition. They can serve as daily drivers with a bit more personality, or they can also turn track days into the best day of the week.

Porsche has always liked to do things differently. Just think about the Porsche Cayenne when it was first unveiled. Purists were not happy at first, but that changed once they got behind the wheel of the brand’s first sport utility vehicle. All-wheel drive is available starting at $ 102,500 while buyers who are looking for more power can turn to the Panamera 4S that features a 440-horsepower engine that gets you to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds. And if that isn’t enough, the Panamera Turbo features a 550-horsepower biturbo V8 engine that gets you to 100 km/h in less than 4.0 seconds. Who said sedans were boring?

The all-new Porsche 911 Carrera T winks at the past

Porsche knows how to take one model and divide it into several versions that cater to the various needs and interests of its clients. Case in point is the all-new Porsche 911 Carrera T unveiled late October. Porsche is not only bringing back a name that first appeared in 1968, it is also catering to owners who are very picky about weight and performance.
Porsche 911 Carrera T: A lighter Porsche 911

Like its predecessor, the new Porsche 911 Carrera T implements significant weight saving measures that are designed to lower the number that shows up when it goes on the scale.
The lateral windows are thinner and made of lighter glass, the interior handles are replaced by straps like you find in a Porsche Cayman GT4 (among other performance Porsche models), and there are no more rear seats. Buyers can also remove the PCM infotainment system, and there are no rear seats anymore.
Overall weight decreases by 20 kilos thanks to these changes. Power, on the other hand, stays the same. As we know, more power and less weight means improved performance, and the 911 Carrera T is all about going fast while maintaining control.
Powered by a flat-six twin-turbo 3.0-liter engine, the 911 T sends 370 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. Top speed is

set at 293 km/h if you opt for the 7-speed manual transmission, and 291 km/h with the available PDK dual-clutch automatic. Getting to 100 km/h only takes 4.5 seconds.
A slightly different look for the Porsche 911 Carrera T
The Porsche 911 Carrera T isn’t remarkably different from other 911 models (excluding the GTS and Turbo models), but it can be recognized quickly thanks to the dark grey strip at the bottom of the door and its anthracite wheels. Three metallic colors are offered along with the four standard 911 colors (black, white, red, and yellow).
The Porsche 911 Carrera T starts at $ 116,500 with the manual, or $ 120,750 with the PDK.

Auto show season is officially underway. Starting in Frankfurt a few weeks ago, it will head next to Tokyo before making stops in Los Angeles, Detroit, Geneva, and New York in April. Porsche has always been very active at the major auto shows where it likes to unveil the new models that are about to hit its showrooms. This year in Frankfurt, Porsche unveiled a brand new model as well as a new version of one of its most iconic vehicle lineups.
The big news with Porsche at this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show was the unveiling of the all-new Porsche Cayenne, the automaker’s flagship SUV. Although the unveiling of a new Cayenne would have already been plenty, Porsche also introduced a new version of the 911 GT3, the Touring Package model. Let’s take a closer look at each.
The all-new Porsche Cayenne Porsche has been tweaking and updating the Cayenne for years now, and the midsize luxury SUV has thus remained popular with buyers who need space and versatility, but who also want sports car-like performance and handling. That said, the new Cayenne unveiled in Frankfurt is completely redesigned and features new engines with more power and better efficiency, and even more technology as well.
The star of the show was definitely the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and its 550-horsepower twin-turbo V8 that will propel it to 100 km/h in about 4.0 seconds. The entry-level Cayenne will get a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine that delivers 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque while the Cayenne S features a 2.9-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder that delivers 440 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque.
Depending on the version, buyers can get features like Porsche Active Suspension Management that can be tuned to provide optimal performance in any environment, from the track to a sand pit, and active rear steering for even more cornering prowess and agility. The new Cayenne is also lighter than the outgoing model by about 65 kilos despite the fact that its length and width have grown slightly.
The Porsche 911 GT3 with Touring Package
Porsche is a master at tweaking its cars just enough to reach basically every type of consumer. The perfect example of this is the Porsche 911 GT3 Touring Package also unveiled in Frankfurt. The Touring Package basically bridges the gap between the GT3 and the already-iconic 911R. It removes the massive rear wing of the GT3 in favor of a retractable unit, but keeps the GT3’s 4.0-liter flat-six engine that develops 500 horsepower.
In other words, the 911 GT3 Touring Package is a GT3 that doesn’t look like a GT3 making it the ultimate sleeper 911.

2018 Porsche 911 GTS: the perfect compromise

When it comes to Porsche and describing the products offered by the German automaker, we don’t often hear the word compromise.
That said, when it comes to the Porsche 911 GTS lineup, we are indeed talking about compromising, albeit in a very good way. More powerful and packed with more personality than the Carrera S, it is also a little less extreme than the 911 Turbo which may simply have too much power for many consumers.
The 911 GTS has that little something extra that’s hard to describe
With the GTS, you get a distinct look, a distinct sound, and distinct performance. You have a ton of power under your right foot, but you can use that power more liberally than with the Turbo that gets you on the wrong side of the law very, very quickly. To fully appreciate any Porsche, you need a track. But, that becomes almost necessary in a Turbo and especially in a GT3.
With the 2018 Porsche 911 GTS, you get the daily drivability aspect that so many people love about the 911, and you get a more defined personality as well that will not only turn heads, but that will also give you that extra adrenaline rush that we normally associate with vehicles many would call exotic.
The new GTS is offered in three different configurations, Coupe, Cabriolet or Targa, and you can opt for either all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive setups with the coupe or convertible trims. The Coupe starts at $ 137,800 while all-wheel drive is available starting at just over $ 145,000. The price difference between a GTS and a Carrera S is considerable on paper, but when you look at the equipment qui get as standard in the former and optional in the other, you realize that for similarly-equipped versions, the difference is not that significant.
Indeed, the 911 GTS features the Sport Chrono package as standard along with the PASM sports chassis which lowers overall ride height by about 10 millimeters. Capable of getting to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds when we are talking about the 911 GTS Coupe with all-wheel drive, the GTS also features a top speed that can reach 312 km/h (GTS Coupe RWD).
The perfect combination of power and fuel economy in the Porsche 911 GTS
Power comes from the well-known 3.0-liter, six-cylinder flat engine, but power jumps to 450 horsepower with a combined fuel consumption rating of less than 10 liters per 100 kilometers in the city. The fuel economy numbers of the 911 lineup that includes the GTS are probably the best hidden secret in the industry. Not only do you get incredible performance, but you also get compact sedan fuel consumption.
And then there is the sound. The Sport Exhaust system combined with the Sport+ mode provides a deep, mechanical rumble that is probably the most authentic performance exhaust note in the industry.
On the other hand, the GTS is a formidable daily driver in the right drive mode. It is comfortable, and its suspension is surprisingly soft on broken roads. Visually, it has a variety of blacked out elements that include the wheels, and that give the model a considerably more aggressive look than the Carrera S.
